Our chapter provides a location March General Meeting for our general meetings and speakers, educational and community outreach at local events along with general administrative requirements. We have been able to pay for all these benefits from the annual dues sharing from National Audubon. The national leadership has let the chapters know that going forward, they will be changing the formula for sharing dues. The Board has decided to be proactive about our budget and look for other revenue opportunities. Some long-time members might remember our Bird-a-thons.
Do you have what it takes to earn the birding crown?
April is the height of migration and that is the usual time for Bird-a-thons. It is a single 24-hour period during which a crazed team of birders, fueled by chocolate mini donuts and Dr. Pepper, attempts to find and identify as many species as possible. Each 4-person (max) team can pick between April 12th to the 19th for a continuous 24 hour period. The team birds together, at least 2 members must agree on an ID.
What to participate? Contact Steve Huber, sevehuber@hotmail.com, or Larry Schmahl, laschmahl@aol.com, 562-714-1843.
Each team will solicit pledges for number of species ID’ed or a total donation. Details will be provided at the March General Meeting.
